Awesome site. It brought back so many memories. I was about 11 years old when I met Vander. I wasnt into bikes at all for me it was all about skateboards. I used to hang out at Great Skate in Castro Valley all the time and talk to the owners , Toast and Scott Berkowitz. Vander was friends with these guys and he used to hang out with everyone at the shop and i remember when he hooked us all up with a ride to the Dublin Cyclery for a skate competition. I was never really close to Vander cause I was so young (at the time the kids were reffered to as gromets) but i still remember the day everyone at Great Skate found out he died. The whole place was in shock and i remember some of the older skaters just standing there in tears. Curb Dogs was the first skate/bmx video that I had seen and I remember thinking how cool it was to see local skate spots on TV. All of that is now a long time ago but I still remember how great it was skating in groups of 10 to 20 kids for hours on end all over the bay area to places like San leandro banks, Canyon banks, empty pools, and if we were lucky enough to get a ride..Manteca Skate Park and as you say in your web site it was "all about having fun". It makes me feel sorry for kids these days who just sit about with their computer games. Sorry for going on and on but like I said the site brought back alot of memories. Thanks.
PS
is any of you remember a little Scottish due who used to hang out at Great Skate...thats me.

Wow - I've done no work for the last couple of hours as i've been going through the site without skipping a thing. You should be proud of your efforts - the pages paint a great portrait of a great man. I bought 3 copies of Oct 84 BMX Action Bike so i could have all the pictures from the curb dogs feature on my wall - seeing them again was a real blast - Thank you

Great site.
Brings back loads of things from back then. Riding back then was so much different than now.
Thanks for putting this place up.
I miss BMX Action (the real one) and Freestylin'. I grew up reading that stuff. Todays magazines could learn a lot from them.
