Vander died a couple weeks before I was even born and he is inspiring my riding today. That is how rad he was I guess. RIP Dave "Vander" Vanderspek.

...it didn't click at first who dave was, until I read and remembered the 'Vander-Roll'! I vaguely recall Vander going against Englands Andy Ruffel at a BMX Beat (old TV comp)...I always wanted Vander to win, I guess in a way he did....

I got to meet Dave at the king of the skateparks competetion in upland Ca, at the pipe line in 1986 or 87. He had a bunch of black gunk on his rims he told me it was pipe joint compound to make his brakes lock up instantly.
The contest was in the combi bowl and I remember his drop in to the bottom of the bowl and these insane fly outs, he would fly up in the air like 12 feet above the lip. My friends and I talked abought that for months.

I GREW UP NOT FAR FROM WHERE DAVE LIVED. IN FACT DAVE WOULD HANG OUT AT MY HIGHSCHOOL SAN LORENZO HIGH. HE WAS 8 YEARS OLDER. I WENT ON TO RACE BMX FOR 13 YEARS TURNED PRO IN 1990. I MOVE TO REDDING IN 1987 AND ALSO GOT TO KNOW THE FAMILY OF SKYWAY. CHRIS RAUDMAN AND HIS BROTHER ARE RACING CARS AND LAST I HEARD THEY ARE HEADED FOR NASCAR. ANYWAYS CURB DOGS WILL NEVER DIE.
